Computers among us

Personal computers, lap tops, tablets, mobile phones, smart TVs as well as a lot of other devices which we  use nowadays are some kind of computers. The word 'computer' itself tells us a lot. They compute-calculate something and besides computing, they also deal with data. All data, numbers, letters, sounds and pictures, are converted into digital form to be convenient for processing inside the computer.  

What does 'digital' mean?

Digital means that everything is represented with combinations of zeros (0) or ones (1). It is because the computer is made of transistors which act as switches and they can have two distinctive states 0 or 1. 

This is the era of a total digitization. In the next lesson, we are going to learn how to convert decimal numbers into binary numbers.
