Lion's pride

 Lion’s pride

It was a very hot day. The pride of lions was lying under the tree. They were very hungry. The little lions were running around in the grass.

“I am not in a mood to hunt today,” the pride leader said.

“But you have to. We are all hungry,” the lioness said.

“Ok, ok, I’ll see what I can do. Has anybody seen any antelopes around these days?” the lion asked.

One of the little ones answered:

“I saw a herd of antelopes near the lake yesterday. They still might be there.”

“Let’s go and see if any of them got lost!” the leader said.

All little lions jumped happily and joined the lion. They slowly moved through a high grass. When they approached the lake they saw a lot of antelopes that were drinking water and eating.

“Are we going to eat up all of them!” one little asked.

“Don’t ask clever questions little! How can we eat all of them? Can’t you see how many of them there are? Has your mum taught you mathematics? We eat one antelope a week. Is it clear?” the leader said.

“I didn’t think much. You know, mum told me that I sometimes talk before I think about my words. I promise I won’t do it again,” the little one said.

“Ok. Try to keep your promise. If you improve yourself, you will get an extra lunch,”

“Yes, yes, I will improve. I’ll improve very soon,” the little lion said happily.

“Calm down a little! Let’s get down to business! Hey, look at that antelope there! It is lying on the ground. Something is probably wrong with her,” the leader said.

“Its leg is broken,” the one of the little lions said.

“Yes, you have a good eye little son. Let’s take it home and have lunch. You know kids, I am thinking of becoming vegetarian. It was too much blood in my life and I am starting feeling sorry for the antelopes. They are so beautiful and we eat them. We could be friends and hang around with them. What do you think my kids?” the lion asked.

“That’s a very good idea, but they are so tasty. And what are we going to eat?” one of the little ones asked.

“I still don’t know, but we can find something else that is also tasty and not kill anybody anymore. Do you promise that you will help me?”

“Yes dad, it would be nice to have such beautiful friends like antelopes and other animals we eat. We must definitely find some other food,” the little lion said excitedly.

They took the injured antelope home without talking. Everybody was thinking about some new food which would bring them peace with antelopes and other animals.
