Birthday present
The party was not ordinary. It was 18th birthday,
so we prepared a little bit better than usually. There was a musician with the
accordion which really improved the atmosphere. Everybody was singing and
dancing all over the evening and until late night. When the guests left, we
cleaned everything and went to bed. The next morning we wanted to see the presents. Larry brought
all the presents to the living room and said: “There is something bad. Aunt
Sally’s envelope has been opened and the banknote was taken out.” Aunt Sally
always brings an envelope with a birthday card and a banknote. We were shocked.
All guests were our friends and family and we couldn’t imagine that somebody
had stolen the money from the envelope. Somebody asked me if I have “borrowed”
the money to pay the musician which I denied doing. I would certainly ask Larry for permission before doing anything with his presents. The other family
members also denied having anything to do with Larry’s presents. We were a bit
confused and didn’t know what to think. Was it possible for something like that
to happen? After all, these are our closest people, we trust them all. Who
would on Earth do something like that? Suddenly, Larry appeared in the living room again. “Read the
card dad!” he said. I took the card and read it. It said: “I wish you all the
best things in life for your 15th birthday! Aunt Sally” I looked at him with a smile. He had taken wrong envelope
from his drawer. It was a present that he got three years ago and kept it among other things. He found the envelope from this year. It wasn’t opened. We all
laughed a lot and were happy, not because of the present, but because of the
idea that we can trust all our best friends and family again.
