Problems at school

It was an ordinary day at school. Everybody was talking loudly at the break time and nobody seemed to notice a new science teacher who entered the classroom.
She took out something from her bag and put it on the desk without saying anything. One by one, pupils were stopping talking and started paying attention to the new teacher. When the loudest boys stopped speaking, something strange happened. The thing on the desk started producing some squeaky sounds. We didn't know what was happening.
"What you can hear now are your voices translated into birds' language," the teacher said.
We were looking at her totally  surprised.
That was the day when all of us started to follow science lessons with a great interest.
